Who knew something so simple could be so delicious AND healthy? Avocado toast quickly became one of my go-to breakfast and lunch meals. Avocado toast gives you everything in one crisp and creamy bite and the variations are unlimited!
My favorite thing about Avocado Toast is that it is super healthy and nourishing. My daughters hear me frequently call this goodness, Brain Food! My love for Avocado Toast grew when I started my health journey. Avocado with the right kind of sourdough bread is perfect for a quick breakfast, lunch, or even dinner meal! Avocados are packed with healthy fats which our bodies love.
A Bit on Sourdough
Legit sourdough is low in gluten and has other nutritional gut benefits (due to the fermentation process) compared to your standard loaf of bread. So next time you’re at the store, skip the plain white or whole wheat for sourdough. Sourdough will help make eating Avocado Toast a much happier experience overall!
FUN NOTE: If you are in the Central Texas area you can find our local bake shop, Easy Tiger Sourdough, at HEB and Whole Foods!

Tips for finding the Perfect Avocado
- Pick the right avocado! Things to take into consideration when you plan to use avocados. If you are going to eat them within a day or so, choose avocados whose skin color is dark green to almost black. The greener and firmer the avocado the more time it has to ripen up!
- Feel the avocado! Is the skin smooth or bumpy? Ripe avocados have skin with a bumpy texture.
- Give the avocado a little squeeze. Is the avocado firm? Does it yield to firm, gentle pressure or does it feel mushy? Ripe avocados handle gentle pressure without leaving indentations or feeling mushy!
Avocado Toast can literally be eaten any time of the day and is the perfect vessel for all of your favorite toppings! Have fun with this recipe and let us know what your favorite combination is!

Ingredients
- 1 Ripe Avocado Depending on the size of your toast, you will most likely use at least half of the avocado. The amount of avocado you choose to use is up to you!

- Salt and Pepper To Taste
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes Optional
Instructions
- Optional STEP! Prepare your bacon. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a large sheet pan with foil and arrange your bacon like so. When the oven is ready, bake the bacon for at least 12 minutes. Check the bacon and add additional minutes until the bacon is crispy and golden. Prepare several paper towels and use a spatula to remove the bacon from the pan to cool and drain excess fat.
- Prepare the avocado my cutting it in half and removing the seed. Slice the avocado and scoop out into a bowl. Smash until you achieve a creamy consistency.
- Toast the sourdough! I use a toaster most of the time, but will occasionally toast the bread on a cast iron skiller with a bit of butter. You do you!
- Assemble your Avocado Toast. Using a spoon, scoop out your desired amount of avocado and spread it over the toast. Season with salt and pepper. Top with with your favorite topping combinations!
- Enjoy this crisp and creamy treat immediately! This recipe as written yields 1 slice of basic avocado toast; multiply as necessary. And please check out the post for topping suggestions!
